A Good Pie Spoiled

The Birth of Bogus Outrage

In recent days, Bill Kristol was hit with a pie and Pat Buchanan was doused with salad creme during lucrative speaking engagements on college campii. Several of the more hysterical wingnuts have cited these events as proof of the depravity of the entire "left."

While Roger Ailes does not condone the deliberate waste of food or non-consensual schtick in general, it should be noted that right-wing college students have engaged in criminal acts and far more dangerous and violent behavior, yet none of the nuts have conflated those students' actions with the entire conservative cause.

Grand Old Police Blotter: Republican Terrorist Edition

As a reality check, let's compare the conduct of our condiment-flinging friends to the conduct of a prominent Republican state representative, who stands charged with using a foodstuff in an attempt to have a critic falsely charged with a terrorist act:

PITTSBURGH - A state lawmaker said he had "something better" than an audit planned for a constituent who asked for an examination of the legislator's political action committee, according to an affidavit detailing charges against the lawmaker in a white powder hoax.

State Rep. Jeff Habay, a Republican lawmaker from Allegheny County elected to a sixth term in November, was charged Wednesday with making up a story that he had received a suspicious white powder in the mail. The envelope, which contained baking soda, had a return address for constituent George Radich.

Radich and four others had asked for a court audit of Habay's political action committee. Shortly after Radich and the others filed the request, Habay's campaign treasurer, Melissa Farabaugh told the legislator, "It's too bad they (the Radiches) can't be audited," according to the affidavit dated Wednesday.

"I have something better planned for them," Habay responded, according to the affidavit.

...

Habay is already awaiting trial on charges that he illegally used his staff to campaign on state time. He was charged Wednesday with 20 new counts as a result of the latest complaint, including a felony charge of possessing or using a facsimile weapon of mass destruction, criminal mischief, harassment and retaliation against a witness. On May 5, Habay called Shaler Township officials and said he had received the envelope filled with white powder at his home. When police arrived at the home, Habay had placed the envelope on the stoop in front of his home, according to the affidavit. He told authorities he didn't recognize the return address.
Representative Habay denies the charges.

Talk about the stiffling of dissent. Speak out against a corrupt official and find yourself under criminal investigation for the felony of threatening the official with a deadly biological agent. I'd rather have pie.

Why haven't the wingnuts opened their pie-holes on these much more serious crimes?
