Roger Ailes doesn't understand why some people hate Martha Stewart so much. Last night a reporter on CNN said that people either love Stewart or "want to slap her silly." (On basic cable, the desire to physically abuse women is usually limited to Hillary Clinton.) If making delightful watercress sandwiches and Finnish Christmas tree ornaments isn't your thing, just don't make them.

On the other hand, sympathy for Stewart as a stalking victim of an overreaching S.E.C. seems equally wrong. Stewart is a former stockbroker and the creator of a hugely successful corporation/media empire. Stewart is surely as savvy on matters of finance and law as any CEO, even if her empire's entire gig is to make her appear folksy and non-materialistic.
