While I'm on the crime beat, these penalties seem a little harsh, particularly since the Young Rethuglican in the preceding post got only 90 days for battering his girlfriend:
An Indianapolis man who posed as a disc jockey and tricked men into disrobing rejected a plea agreement this morning and will be sentenced on six felony convictions next month.
Richard C. Brown, 41, rejected a plea agreement this morning that would have closed 20 felony charges pending against him and sent him to prison for up to 16 years.
Brown was convicted Wednesday of three counts of criminal confinement and three counts of identity deception for luring three men to his Eastside home in July 2004 by claiming they could win $50,000 cash or a car as part of a WNOU-FM (93.1) contest. Once there, the victims were instructed to take off their clothes and put on a small T-shirt.
Brown faces a maximum of nine years in prison when Superior Court Judge Mark Stoner sentences him May 15.
Brown still faces trial on 14 more felony charges stemming from similar incidents involving seven more men. He is scheduled to appear for a pre-trial hearing on April 8.
Assuming the men were adults, why is this even a crime?
Will Marco, Madison, Shannon, Super Phat Mikey and Lisa the Phone Ho be testifying for the prosecution or the defense?
