Southern Man

The previous comment (the one immediately below) refers to the subject of the brilliant investigative journalism of in the current New York Press. Signorile has exposed Robert Stacy McCain, assistant national editor of the Moonie Times, as a diehard racist and apologist for slavery. The evidence cited included McCain's posting of anti-black and anti-gay messages on the Free Republic messageboards, under the screenname "BurkeCalhounDabney."

After the column was published online, McCain and/or his allies leapt into action and deleted all evidence of their Southern Pride from the freeper boards. Seems the big-talking bigot wasn't all that ready to defend his racist views.

Fortunately, McCain hasn't been able to delete all of his idiocy from the web. Comments such as this remain: "And so we look at the South, and we see a region where -- even under slavery, even during segregation -- black and white have generally lived together in harmony."

I can't say this is a complete surprise. I've mentioned Wes Pruden's racist past and present before. And, as I wrote this past weekend, "The Moonie Times' Augusta is, of course, the rehabilitation of the Confederacy and Southern racists."

What will come of this? Most likely, nothing. How can editor-in-chief Pruden possibly discipline his underling for sharing the exact same views as he does? And the righty bloggers have already exhausted this year's quota of intramural criticism on their Replace Helmet Head campaign. The mainstream press will never call on McCain (or the Times) to defend McCain's vile views.
